Can You Replace a Laptop Battery Yourself?

Non-removable (internal) battery:
Modern ultrathin laptops (such as the MacBook and some MateBooks) often have internal batteries, secured by glue or solder. Replacing the battery requires disassembling the device, which may void the warranty.

How can I tell if my laptop battery is replaceable?
  1. Check the exterior:
  • Removable battery: There is a separate battery compartment and release switch on the bottom.
  • Internal battery: There are no visible gaps in the body; you need to remove the back cover to verify.
  1. Check the manual or official website:
The "Technical Support" page on the brand's official website usually indicates the battery type.
How to replace the battery yourself:
  • Removing screws: First, remove all screws on the back cover. Remember to use a PH1 and PH0 screwdriver to avoid stripping.
  • Prying open the back cover: Use a tool to gently pry open the back cover. The clips are very tight, so take your time!
  • Replacing the battery: Tighten the screws securing the battery counterclockwise, pressing down firmly. Be careful not to strip.
  • Installation complete: Close the back cover, tighten the screws, power on the computer, and check the battery status. It's back to full health!

Battery Maintenance Tips
Avoid complete discharge: Charge the battery when it's down to 20%; don't wait until it's completely drained!
Avoid overcharging: Unplug the computer after it's fully charged; don't leave it plugged in!
Maintain a suitable temperature: Avoid using the computer in extreme temperatures, as this will affect battery life!
Charge regularly: Even if you don't use it often, charge it regularly to maintain battery life!
Use the original charger: Avoid inferior chargers, which are safe and reliable!
Battery Replacement Precautions
  • Static Electricity Protection: De-staticize the battery before disassembly by touching a wall or washing your hands!
  • Reseat the battery: Ensure the latches are properly seated when installing the battery to avoid any problems!
  • First Charge: Start charging at 10%; don't charge it directly to full!
  • Battery Model: Make sure you buy the right model!
  • Tools to prepare: Screwdriver, opening pick, anti-static wrist strap—all required!
